大同火山群是受欧亚大陆—太平洋板块体系影响的、典型的发育在板内裂谷系、断陷火山盆地内岩浆作用的地质地貌遗迹，是我国华北地台上唯一的保存完好的第四纪火山群，已知有32座,分布在云州区和阳高县境内。根据形成于不同时期，各具不同自然景观的火山地质特点，大同火山群与云南腾冲火山群、黑龙江五大莲池火山群、吉林长白山火山群、新疆卡尔达西火山群、台湾大屯火山群并称中国六大火山群。

火山地质公园以大同火山群地质资源为核心，打造特色主题村落、原野户外运动、火山休闲农业、精品度假村等四大板块，将基地发展成为一处集地质科研、户外休闲运动、火山主题农业、文化主题度假等功能于一体的山西领先、国内一流、国际知名的地址休闲旅游胜地，形成三大开发系统：园区系统、建设用地开发系统和活动赛事运维系统。 

1、下甘庄村火山主题小镇。其中包括：火山主题步行街区；火山体验教室；晋北火山民宿；下甘庄古村落。

2、双山飞行基地。其中包括：火山飞行俱乐部；狂野露营基地；黄土跑跳天地。

3、火山休闲农业。其中包括：马兰黄土农业王国；马兰黄土田园乐；马兰黄土农家乐。

4、黄家洼村精品酒店。其中包括：黄家洼村精品酒店；天地灵修中心。

5、东阁老村凤凰村落。其中包括：火山地质博物馆；凤凰市集；窑洞客栈；东阁老村古村落。

投入上亿资金进行了火山群30万亩的绿化，投资5000多万元建设了50km的旅游路，投资2000多万元建设了火山地质广场、火山观景台，火山地质公园临时博物馆，设置了旅游路标和景点解说牌等，投资1300万修建狼窝山木栈道,投资1000多万，建设了金山停车场、狼窝山停车场、狼窝山游客服务中心。

组团项目建成投入运营稳定后，可实现旅游净收益为10000万元/年，静态回收期为7-8年。

II. Market Prospects

The Datong volcanoes are a geological and geomorphological relic site that is affected by the Eurasian-Pacific plate system, typically developed in the intraplate rift zone and formed by magma of volcano-graben basin. They are the only well-preserved volcanoes formed in the Quaternary period in the north China and the 32 discovered ones are distributed in Yunzhou district and Yanggao county. As those volcanoes are formed in different period, they have attained different volcanic geological features presenting various natural landscapes, which ranks Datong volcanoes one of the six major volcanic groups in China together with Yunnan Tengchong volcanic group, the Heilongjiang Wudalianci volcanic group, the Jilin Changbai Mountain volcanic group, the Xinjiang Kardex volcanic group, and the Taiwan Tatun volcanic group.

III. Project Scope and Scale

The volcano geological park takes the geological resources of the Datong volcanoes as the core to build four major sections: the theme village with distinctive features, the field sports, the volcanic leisure agriculture, and the boutique resort, in an attempt to develop the base into a renowned geological leisure tourism resort integrating geological research, outdoor leisure sports, volcano-themed agriculture, cultural theme vacation and other functions that is advanced in Shanxi, China and even the world. It will develop three major systems: park system, construction land development system and event operation and maintenance system.

1. The volcanic theme town of Xiaganzhuang village, which includes: volcanic theme pedestrian street, volcano experience classroom, volcano home stay in north Shanxi, and the ancient village of Xiaganzhuang.

2. Shuangshan Flight Base, which include: volcano flight club, wild camping base, and loess run & jump space.

3. Volcanic leisure agriculture, which includes: Malan loess agricultural kingdom, Malan loess rural park, and Malan loess angertainment.

4. Huangjiawa village boutique hotel, which includes: Huangjiawa village boutique hotel and Heaven and Earth Spiritual Practice Center.

5. Phoenix village in Donggelao village, which includes: Volcanic geological museum, Phoenix market, cave dwelling inn and ancient village of Donggelao village.

IV. Advantage Analysis

1. Location and Transportation Advantage: Datong city is located in the northern part of Shanxi province at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia. It is the northern gate of Shanxi to Beijing and Tianjin, and the geographical undertaker of the two national key strategies of boosting eastern regions and the western development drive.

2. Natural foundation advantage: the Datong volcanoes are the only well-preserved Quaternary volcanic group in the world that is composed of cinder cones on the Loess Plateau. They are reputed as the rare natural heritage of the East Asian continent and is one of the six well-known major volcanic groups in China, topping the ranking with a total of more than 40 craters in the country.

3. Historic and Cultural Resources advantage: it was built in the volcanic crater of the Haotian Mountain volcano, one of the Datong volcanoes, in the Northern Wei dynasty, enjoying a history of over 1600 years. It is one of the temples embodying northern civilization and plays an important role in the history of Chinese Buddhism.

4. Tourism Market Advantage: targeting the three customer groups of natural tourism, outdoor sports and leisure vacation, the base mainly meets the needs of customers of the above three markets. Taking Shanxi province and surrounding provinces as the core markets, the project focuses on attracting domestic tourists and expanding the market of inbound tourists.

V. Project Progress

Over 100 million fund has been invested to carry out the greening of the 300,000 mu (20000ha) land around the volcanoes, 50 million yuan to build a 50km tourist road, over 20 million yuan to build a volcanic geological plaza, a volcano viewing platform, a temporary museum of volcanic geopark and set up road signs and scenic attraction illustration boards, 13 million to build the Langwo mountain plank road, and more than 10 million to construct Jinshan mountain parking lot, Langwo mountain parking lot, and Langwo mountain tourist service center.

VI. Benefit Analysis

After the completion of group project, it will bring a net tourism income of 100 million yuan/year with a static recovery period of 7-8 years.
